Elon Musk Claims X Hit by “Massive Cyberattack” Possibly Involving a Large Group or a Country

On Monday, March 10, 2025, Elon Musk announced that his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), experienced a significant cyberattack that disrupted services for thousands of users worldwide. Users began reporting issues early in the morning, with outage reports surpassing 40,000 by mid-morning, according to DownDetector.

Musk addressed the situation on X, stating, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏,” and suggested that the attack was executed with substantial resources, possibly by a large coordinated group or a nation-state.

The disruptions prevented users from refreshing their feeds, posting content, and utilizing the search function, with many encountering error messages such as “try again” or “something went wrong, try reloading.”

This incident follows a series of challenges for Musk’s ventures. Recently, Tesla stores in the United States were attacked amid protests against the company’s policies, and Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency has sparked controversy.

In response to the cyberattack, X’s technical teams are actively working to trace its origin and restore full functionality to the platform. As of now, no group or nation has claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
