ALERT from Donald M. Topping, President
Drug Policy Forum of Hawai'i
The Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing SB 862,SD1 "Relating
to
Medical Use of Marijuana on Monday, February 28 at 9:00 a.m.
Written testimony is _extremely_ important for this particular hearing.
While you are certainly welcome to attend, personally appearing to
read your testimony will not add much to the impact. We are hoping to get
lots of testimony, which is another reason to keep it all very brief -
to keep us in the good graces of the Committee Members as the bill is at
the end of a rather long agenda.
Because this is the Judiciary Committee, please _do not testify on the
health
benefits specifically._ They have been well established at hearings
last year by the Senate Health Committee. Rather, I would suggest that
you refocus your testimony on the legal concerns, perceived conflict with
federal laws, policing, "wrong message to children", and such.
PHYSICIANS, we need your testimony _badly_ to help counteract the very
negative testimony from the Hawai'i Medical Association.
Fax testimony less than 5 pages (1 sided), directly to the Senate Judiciary
Committee Office at (808) 586-7125 or (toll free for the neighbor islands)
to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 1-800-586-6659, at least 24 hours
prior to the hearing.
